Lost Creatures: Behind the Scenes

Written by: Yen Trinh, Experience Design Manager

For the past 10 months, we have been working on the upcoming Lost Creatures exhibition.

Lost Creatures is an epic Queensland story of the struggle to survive. You will meet strange creatures – our very own dinosaurs, giant marine reptiles and megafauna – and marvel at the diversity and immense size of creatures from our prehistoric past.

Floor works included removing tiles and adding new power, data and carpet. The ceiling projections being installed will enliven Lark Quarry with animations

The process of design and development involves a huge team and often goes unseen.   Through many rounds of concepts and refinement we have reached the very exciting step of INSTALL!  Joinery and graphics install commenced this week, and here is a snapshot of some of the works that have been happening since September on Level 2.

A new plinth is being constructed for Lark Quarry sections that have never been on display before
These are glass print samples for an exciting 2m tall Rhoetosaurus display which will feature a full-sized standing hind leg
Light effects being tested for the Cretaceous Seas module. This section will showcase beautiful marine reptile fossils
The new carpet colours are designed to mark a 250 million year timeline of dinosaurs and megafauna

The joinery install will occur throughout October, with multimedia install and objects to follow during November.

We can’t wait to show you the finished exhibition!
